Rise & Shine is a comprehensive, neighborhood based model for early childhood mental health and development. This three year program is funded by the Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey. Family Connections as lead agency implemented Rise & Shine in collaboration with Newark Preschool Council, YCS Institute for Infant and Preschool Mental Health, Programs for Parents and Seton Hall University, School of Graduate Medical Education. Rise & Shine aptly concentrates services to the Vailsburg, Newark community to maximize coverage and access to all members of this diverse population. Rise and Shine reaches out to the entire Vailsburg community children from infancy to age 5, together with their parents, their child care providers and even their neighbors to participate in services that support children’s growth and family strengths. At the completion of this three year project, over 500 children who
will be recipients of enhanced neurological and social emotional development,
speech and language skills, problem solving and impulse control, empathy,
attachment and well-being. The Vailsburg community of parents and caregiver
will gain the knowledge and skills and the preschool centers will have
an improved service structure in place to offer other children well
beyond the three year project period. |
